What is Kominote Lakay?
Kominote Lakay is a directory of Haitian-owned businesses, services, community organizations, and resources across the diaspora. Our mission is to help the Haitian community find and support each other, no matter which city they are in.
Is it free to use?
Yes. Browsing the directory is completely free. No account required.
How do I find a business near me?
You can search by keyword, category, or city. You can also use the location filter to find businesses near you. Results can be viewed as a list, a grid, or on a map.
Can I leave a review?
Yes. You can leave a star rating and a written review for any business listed in the directory. Reviews help the community make informed decisions and help business owners grow.
How do I know a business is truly Haitian-owned?
Every business on Kominote Lakay has self-declared Haitian ownership as part of the submission process. Businesses that have completed our verification process display a Verified Haitian-Owned badge on their listing. We take the integrity of our directory seriously and encourage users to report any listing that seems inaccurate.
Can I report a listing?
Yes. If you notice a listing that contains inaccurate information or does not belong in the directory, please contact us at hello@kominotelakay.ca and we will review it promptly.
FOR BUSINESS OWNERS
How do I add my business?
Visit our Add Listing page and fill out the submission form. Our team will review your listing and publish it within 1 to 2 business days once approved.
How much does it cost to list my business?
A basic listing is completely free and includes your logo, description, contact form, opening hours, map, social links, languages spoken, photo gallery, and the Verified Haitian-Owned badge. There is no catch and no expiry on free listings.
What is a Premium listing?
Premium listings are available for $13.99 CAD per month and include additional features such as an extended photo gallery, video embed, owner reply to reviews, a business owner story section, promotional offer field, analytics dashboard, multiple locations, and priority placement in search results.
Can I upgrade from free to Premium at any time?
Yes. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your Premium subscription at any time from your account dashboard.
My business was already listed, but I did not add it. What do I do?
You can claim your listing. Visit the listing page and use the claim option to submit a request. We will verify your ownership and transfer control of the listing to you.
How long does it take for my listing to be approved?
We aim to review all submissions within 1 to 2 business days. You will receive an email confirmation once your listing is live.
Can I edit my listing after it is published?
Yes. You can update your listing information, photos, and hours at any time through your account dashboard.
ADVERTISING
What advertising options are available?
We offer three placement types:
- Featured Listing ($75/month): Rotating homepage placement visible to all visitors. Limited to 10 spots per city.
- Sponsored Category ($50/month): Your business appears at the top of your category page with a Sponsored badge. Limited to 2 co-sponsors per category per city.
- Top Listing ($30/month): Pinned above organic results within your category. Limited to 5 spots per category per city.
What if the spot I want is already full?
You can join the waitlist for that city and category. When a spot opens, you will be notified and given priority access along with a discount on your first month.
Can I advertise in multiple cities?
Yes. Each city is managed separately so you can hold placements in as many cities as you like, subject to availability.
Are advertising fees refundable?
Advertising fees are non-refundable once a placement has gone live. You may cancel at any time and your placement will remain active until the end of the current billing period.
OUR MISSION AND GIVING BACK
How does Kominote Lakay give back to Haiti?
A portion of what this platform generates through advertising and premium listings goes toward initiatives that support Haiti directly. This includes funding community projects, supporting education, and partnering with organizations doing on-the-ground work in Haiti. We will publish a transparency report annually so the community can see exactly where the funds go.
Who decides which organizations receive support?
We are building this process with community input. If you represent or know of an organization doing meaningful work in Haiti, we would love to hear from you. Reach out at hello@kominotelakay.ca.
Is Kominote Lakay a nonprofit?
No. Kominote Lakay is operated by Philippe-Remy Enterprise Corp., a for-profit company. However, giving back to Haiti is a core part of our mission, not an afterthought. We are committed to being transparent about how platform revenue is used.
TECHNICAL AND ACCOUNT
Do I need an account to browse the directory?
No. The directory is fully browsable without an account.
What languages is the platform available in?
Kominote Lakay is available in English, French, and Haitian Creole.
How do I delete my account?
You can request account deletion by contacting us at hello@kominotelakay.ca. We will process your request within 30 days in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
I have a question that is not answered here. What do I do?
Reach out to us at hello@kominotelakay.ca. We typically respond within 1 to 2 business days.
